The Maze is managed by a Board of Trustees, which at present includes three parish councillors, two local residents and a local solicitor. Þ Newsletters - All of our quarterly newsletters are here, download them and enjoy. Þ Parish Plan - The Parish Plan initiative gave us the opportunity to examine development and sustainability issues. The housing stock in Alkborough increased by 100% since the beginning of the last world war. Unchecked, this continued level of development will severely affect both the nature and tranquillity we all currently enjoy. The other side of this coin is that our exclusivity has driven up house prices and our own young people, on reaching adulthood, must move away. Of course, this doesn’t just apply to Alkborough & Walcot, its happening in remote rural locations all over the country. Þ Alkborough Flats Project - The place to find out anything you need to know about what is the Flats project and what they do. Þ Neighbourhood Watch - For all your security information. Our villages pride themselves on how low our crime rate is. Thanks to the neighbourhood watch schemes. Þ Women's Institute - We play a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. Þ Alkborough Choir - It was started by a group of housewives who ‘just wanted to sing’ in September 1983, and they haven’t stopped singing since. It has developed into an acappella (i.e. mainly unaccompanied) mixed voice choir over the years and today has 21 members, the majority of whom have some connection with the village, either they live or have lived in the Alkborough Whitton/West Halton area, or they are related to people who do. Þ Methodist Chapel - We hold many activities at the Chapel throughout the year and anyone will find a very warm welcome on any church service or local activity. We share the Sunday School with our Anglican friends at Alkborough Parish Church. Sunday school usually starts at 11:15 am, however the times may vary and there are hand-outs, with the timings, available within the church and chapel. Þ St John the Baptist Church - St John the Baptist Church at Alkborough dates back many years. Earliest records show that there was a Church here in 1052 and the Tower is of typical Saxon design. The architecture of the Church shows there have been many changes to the building throughout its long history. Þ Alkborough & District Riding Club - For all things horsey in and around our villages. Þ Coronation Club - The Club is a place to relax after a hard day , a place to have a good chat, a discussion about politics, the weather, football or the latest gossip. A place to bring friends for a quiet drink. Others will remember children’s’ parties at Christmas and Halloween, the annual trip to the sea-side, the senior members Christmas tea with entertainment. For others, club games, darts and pool flyers, quizzes, BBQs and discos, will be remembered with affection. Þ Alkborough Cricket Club - Records show that Alkborough Cricket Club was formed around 1850, playing their home games in front of Walcot Hall. The field was called Westcroft. Cricket was played there until 1965 when the last game was played between Alkborough and Scunthorpe League Select Side.
