A Bit of History - some milestones
Pre 1937 - founder members met at Ted White’s cycle shop and forge (in the grounds of Mr Ablott’s home in Front Street)
A large shed was rented for the sum of £1-8s-0d a month in the garden where Mr R Sutton now lives in Front Street.
The beer was supplied on a sale or return basis by Sergeants Brewery (Brigg) who also supplied furniture.
1st May 1938 - present building purchased off Mr F Trafford for £446-15s-3d
Oct 1938 -became member of the Clubs Institute and Union
Feb 1940 -electricity installed for £19-12s-6d
1951 - women were allowed into the Club as guests of members but only at weekends
1951 - Ladies toilet built.
1963 and 1975 alterations were carried out leaving the building more or less as it is today.
1963 – one arm bandit installed. This proved very popular with members and financed the alterations
1970 - Jack Clark , the present Secretary was appointed.
1982 - Percy Yorke, the present Steward was appointed.
1985 - women became full members which entitled them to stand for the committee
1990s -new roof fitted, interior renovated and improved.
2005 - new ladies toilet was built.
2006 –became the home of Alkborough Post Office on a Monday afternoon.
The building itself was built in 1773 and occupied by a Thomas England. It later was bought by the Constable family and became part of the Walcot estate. Later still it became the “Old Parsonage” although it was never owned by the Church. Eventually it was bought by Mr Trafford who sold it to the Club in 1937.

We welcome everybody Even skinny vegetarian southern women in stilettos, who drink sparkling water, hate bingo and think sex is what potatoes come in !!
